Job Description:
Provide writing assistance and support to students enrolled in the Graduate Division and Weekend/Evening College on the MSMU Doheny campus. Serves as a member of the Professional and Academic Resource Center (PARC) team. This position is part-time, non-exempt working approximately, 10-20 hours per week.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Conducts consulting sessions (individual and group) to improve academic performance in-person (appointment and walk-in), phone and online (asynchronous and synchronous).
- Conducts workshops and classroom presentations pertaining to various writing- and academic-related topics.
- Collaborates with students, faculty and staff to assess student needs and progress.
- Participates in outreach efforts to promote awareness of PARC services.
- Responds to students’ requests in a timely and professional manner.
- Assists in record-keeping including Center usage and confidential student session records.
- Actively participates in the department’s program planning and assessment efforts.
- Stays current on MSMU’s Graduate Division and Weekend College academic offerings, pertinent academic policies and services.
- Mandatory active participation in Orientation for the Graduate Division and Weekend/Evening College, and department retreats with sufficient notice.
- Conducts all work in a professional manner.
- Performs other job-related duties, as assigned.
Requirements:
Knowledge:
- Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language, including an advanced understanding of vocabulary, composition rules, grammar and academic style.
- Working knowledge of teaching and/ or Learning Center experience working with students, in particular adult students.
Abilities and Skills:
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse perspectives, needs, abilities and learning styles including language and cultural differences.
Education:
- Master’s degree is required.
Experience:
- Two years minimum experience.
- Teaching and/ or Learning Center Experience.
