The English Department at Duquesne University seeks a specialist in 19th Century British Literature at the level of Assistant Professor (tenure-track), to begin in the fall of 2019. Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach a range of courses, including specialized graduate and advanced undergraduate courses in their field of interest, upper-division courses in Romantic and Victorian literature across genres, and the second half of the undergraduate British Literature Survey. Secondary areas of interest that are particularly desirable include film studies, women’s and gender studies, poetics, and writing (including creative writing). Candidates should also have experience teaching first-year writing.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in English or related field by Aug. 15, 2019. Scholarship or the strong promise of scholarship is required for consideration. Excellent teaching and the publication of peer-reviewed research is necessary for both tenure and promotion. Successful candidates must be able and willing to teach and work with MA and PhD students.
