The Department of English (http://www.ecu.edu/english) is seeking to fill one or more positions for Teaching Instructors specializing in composition to begin August 13, 2018. These non-tenure-track positions are for the fall and spring semesters of the 2018-2019 academic year only, with the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load for these positions is typically four courses per semester. Depending upon a candidate’s credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Minimum Education/Experience:
Minimum qualifications include MA in English or related degree (e.g., rhetoric/composition or writing studies) from an appropriately accredited institution. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in first-year writing and writing about the disciplines.

With more than 70 full-time faculty and more than 100 graduate students, the Department of English at East Carolina University is a vibrant and energetic collection of teachers, scholars, researchers, and writers. One of 16 departments in the Thomas Harriot College of Arts and Sciences, we offer three degrees: a B.A. in English, an M.A. in English with concentrations in eight different areas, and a Ph.D. in Rhetoric, Writing, and Professional Communication. We also offer an undergraduate certificate in business and technical communication and post-baccalaureate certificates in professional communication, multicultural and transnational literatures, teaching English to speakers of other languages (TESOL), and teaching English in two-year colleges.
