Position Summary
Tenure-track Assistant Professor of English to begin in August 2018. Specialization in Rhetoric and Composition. Secondary field American Literature (any period). Expertise in digital publishing/humanities a plus.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesTeach in our First-Year-Experience program as well as introductory and advanced courses in writing and literature. Teaching load 4/4. We are looking for a candidate who will take a leadership role in creating a dynamic culture of writing on our campus through writing-across-the curriculum initiatives, faculty development, university-wide writing assessment, coordinating with the Writing Center, evaluating freshman placement essays, and overseeing freshman writing tutorials (some of which carries course-load reductions).
Minimum Requirements
- Earned Ph.D. in English or related field at time of appointment
- Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Potential for scholarly achievement
- Willingness to support the Catholic and Franciscan values of the University mission
Preferred Requirements
- Higher education teaching experience
Hours/Shift/Work ScheduleThis is a 9-month position, from August – May.
Physical Requirements of PositionWork is performed in classroom and office settings with minimal exposure to health or safety hazards. Substantial time is spent working on a computer. This work requires the following physical activities: sitting, walking, bending, stooping, finger dexterity, repetitive motions, talking, hearing, and visual acuity.
