Division of Arts & Humanities

NYU Abu Dhabi

The Arts and Humanities Division is inviting applications for Writing Program Instructor positions at all levels. Instructors support NYU Abu Dhabi’s educational mission by assisting faculty with courses in all disciplines. Instructors lead discussion sections, hold review sessions, provide assistance with the preparation, development, and assessment of courses, and take part in departmental activities. Participation in professional development opportunities is expected and supported.

We encourage applicants with a Master’s degree in TESL, Writing Studies, Composition, or related fields to apply. Individuals with a higher degree who are interested in working in an academic support role will also be considered. Candidates with extensive experience in Writing Programs, Writing Centers, and academic tutoring are also encouraged to apply. An ideal applicant would be an excellent communicator both orally and in written English. A candidate with strong quantitative skills is desired.

Instructors in the NYUAD Writing Program play an integral role in the development of students’ written and oral expression throughout the four years of their NYUAD education—from the first-year experience to the Capstone project. As academic support staff, they help the Writing Program Directors with assessment and course placement; serve as writing and/or speech consultants in the Writing Center; give individualized tutorials as course assistants for faculty in First-Year Writing Seminar (FYWS) and writing-intensive classes. Furthermore, Instructors may provide writing support in secondary academic assignments; consult with faculty on best writing and speaking practices across the curriculum; provide individual and group support for Capstone projects; and support Writing Program and Writing Center initiatives (such as special workshops, website development, and curricular or extra-curricular events). Instructors are expected to participate in ongoing training through participation in development workshops throughout the year. Instructors also engage in their own writing projects, and they will be asked to meet deadlines and share their ongoing work as part of staff development.
