The Department of English at Suffolk University is seeking a full-time, non-tenure-track instructor of developmental first-year composition for 2018-2019 (one-year position, renewable based on need). Writing instructors teach four courses each semester (4/4) in first-year composition (WRI 101/102, course cap 19). Standard or advanced composition courses may be included in the course load. A modest amount of service to the department and the university through committee membership, student advising, and attending certain departmental events is also required. We will prioritize the applications of candidates who hold terminal degrees in rhetoric and composition and/or who have extensive experience teaching developmental composition. The ideal candidate would also have demonstrable experience teaching English to international students. This is a twelve-month, salaried, benefited position.
Applications should be submitted through the Suffolk HR website and should include the following elements: 1) letter of application (addressed to the department chair, D. Quentin Miller); 2) CV; 3) a statement of teaching philosophy highlighting developmental composition, and 4) two recent sets of student course evaluations. Review of applications will begin immediately, with a final application deadline of March 1, 2018.
