Assistant Professor – Contemporary American Ethnic/Multicultural Literature

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Teach the equivalent of 12 hours per semester in undergraduate and graduate English courses that may include literature surveys, American Cross-Cultural and Multicultural Literature, Ethnic Writers, American Literature and Culture, and Composition.
  • Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students
  • Maintain active scholarly work in the field
  • Serve on university, college, and department level committees

Required Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or ABD (Ph.D. by August 2018) in English or closely related field (Degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited/government certified university).
  • Secondary area of specialization open, which may include: American drama, postcolonial studies, women’s, gender and/or LGBTQ studies
  • Experience teaching at the college/university level as a graduate assistant, instructor or above
  • Demonstrated evidence of scholarly work, i.e. research and/or publications
  • Demonstrated strong English communication skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of successful online teaching and/or online course development
  • Demonstrated ability or potential to incorporate technology into the face-to-face classroom and to teach blended, ITV and online courses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to collegiality when interacting with others within the University community
  • Demonstrated commitment to a diverse work environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities

Successful candidates will contribute to the development of innovative curricula and delivery strategies, including traditional, blended and online formats, and participate in initiatives promoting student success, retention and degree completion.
