The English department at Duquesne University is seeking a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Writing Studies to begin Fall 2019. Scholarly field is open but attractive specialties include literacy studies, pedagogy, technical and professional communication, feminist rhetorics, and/or writing program administration.
In addition, the person filling this position will, upon arrival, serve at least one five-year term as the Director of First-Year Writing. The Director of First-Year Writing sets the curriculum and policies for Duquesne’s two required first-year writing courses, trains graduate teaching assistants who teach those courses, oversees faculty teaching in the program, schedules the courses, and handles all administrative matters related to the first-year writing program. Expected teaching load for the Director of First-Year Writing is 2/1.5, including the Teaching College Writing course required of all new graduate teaching assistants, and an annual stipend comes with the position.
Required qualifications: Ph.D. in English, rhetoric and composition, or related field by Aug. 15, 2019. Scholarship or the strong promise of scholarship is required for consideration. Excellent teaching and the publication of peer-reviewed research is necessary for both tenure and promotion. Successful candidates must be able and willing to teach and work with MA and PhD students. Experience teaching first-year writing and with writing program administration highly desirable. Salary and benefits are competitive.
